About Me

Me and my husband, Jordan, January 2012
My name is Mandi Pitt-Reed and I am a Masters Student in Public History with an emphasis on archival management at Middle Tennessee State University. I was born in Nashville and attended Catholic grade school at Saint Ann Elementary School and public high school at Hillwood Comprehensive High School. I moved to Memphis in 2005 to pursue a B.A. in history, with minors in English, Religious Studies, and Behavioral Science, emphasis Sociology, at Christian Brothers University. I have interned and worked in several archival institutions, including the Memphis Room in the Memphis Public Library, the Nashville Room in the Nashville Public Library, Metro Nashville Archives, Rutherford County Archives, the Albert Gore Research Center and the Digital Projects division of the James Walker Library. I'm particularly interested in the cultural impact of archives, especially pertaining to local and community memory. In the course of my work towards the Masters degree in Public History at MTSU, I have become involved in several other projects, most notably the Franklin Cemeteries Preservation project through the Center of Historic Preservation at MTSU, the Stones River National Battlefield Cemetery Community reinterpretive project, and both the Project in Interpreting the Past and the African American Oral History Project with Dr. Martha Norkunas.

My personal interests include Catholic education; my sorority, Alpha Sigma Tau; crafting; cooking; and enjoying my family and friends. I met my husband, Jordan, while attending Christian Brothers University. You can find his blog at www.coffeeandwater.blogspot.com. We were married on October 15, 2011 and currently reside in Memphis, Tennessee with our pet turtle, Leonidas, and Chow mix, Fred.
