Rutherford County Archives
I spent the summer of 2010 working as a digital projects archivist at the RCA under the leadership of Rutherford County Archivist John Lodl. My primary responsibilities while there were to begin processing and cataloging a portion of the historic Shacklett's photograph collection and to help develop a pilot program to scan and return historic community photographs. While there, I also created an exhibit based on the historic postcards loaned to the archives by a community member for scanning and exhibition.

Archival Management
This page contains links to essays and other work products created in the course of studying archival management at MTSU.

Oral History
Work products in this area result from two classes in oral history, including one on public programming for historic organizations using oral histories, and a second on conducting oral history.

Historic Preservation
In the Fall of 2010, I took Essentials of Historic Preservation with Dr. Carroll Van West. Groups of students in the class worked on various projects, including an education plan for a New Deal site, a War of 1812 Walking Tour, and a historic cemetery assessment for a nearby town. Along with two other students, I worked on Old City Cemetery, an early nineteenth century cemetery in Franklin, Tennessee. Our work was compiled into a cemetery assessment report detailing both of Franklin's historic cemeteries.

Ethnography and Cultural Landscape
Items in this section are taken from research conducted during a class on Non-Standard Sources for Research. My work examines the changing cultural landscape of West Nashville, Tennessee.

Public History at Stones River National Battlefield
My earliest professional work product from the M.A. degree comes from MTSU's introductory course to public history. Each year, students in this course conduct an aspect of historical consulting for Stones River National Battlefield in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Essentials of Museum Management at Davies Manor Plantation
I took a class on the Essentials of Museum Management my final semester in graduate school. As part of the course, I was expected to start a mini practicum at a local museum. On the suggestion of some local colleagues, I contacted Davies Manor Plantation. While working on my practicum, I began a project to accession and abstract their collection of ledger books related to the life of the family and plantation. I am continuing my work past the practicum phase to finish abstracting and accessioning the collection of over fifty ledgers.
